The Speak Out Talks

Navigating race and gender in the workplace

In this talk, Barbara Baffoe-Bonnie discusses race and gender in the workplace. In her own words “The presentation is to highlight the challenges I have faced working as a black woman in corporate UK; and how I have learned to cope and in some cases overcome and (still overcome) these challenges. My aim is to use my story to encourage and empower someone of whatever colour to pursue their career goal. I also hope that the talk will help people who manage people of colour or minority ethnic groups to understand the challenges they face and give them the extra support they need to achieve their goals.”

Barbara Baffoe-Bonnie is an Economist with over 10 years experience working in the utility and infrastructure sectors; helping businesses make good investment and business decisions. She currently works as a Principal Evaluation Manager for Highways England – government-owned company that operates, maintains and improves England's motorways and major A-roads. A key part of her role within HE is to provide evaluation lead and methods assurance for their complex infrastructure programme and major projects. She also leads and oversees methods development and monitoring evaluation standards for wider economic impacts, environment, safety and social impacts.

This event welcomes attendees from all genders and all organisations. We hope that you can join us!
